1971 - George Harrison hit number one on the album charts with All Things Must Pass, making him the first Beatle to score a #1 album as a solo artist.
1978 - The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, retook the reins as lead singer of Black Sabbath.
1979 - The trial began in the case against Sid Vicious for the alleged murder of girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
1998 - Veteran producer Nik Venet died at the age of 62 in Los Angeles of lymphoma. The producer worked on more than 300 albums from artists including the Beach Boys, Bobby Darin and Glen Campbell.
2005 - Green Day had the number one album in the UK for American Idiot. It would go on to win the Grammy for Best Rock Album.
