Sonny Rollins, one of the most influential tenor saxophonists in jazz history, has died at 95. His representatives announced that he died at his home in Woodstock, New York, with no specific cause of death immediately given.

Rollins was known for a sound that was direct, restless, and deeply personal. Born Walter Theodore Rollins in Harlem in 1930, he became a defining figure in modern jazz and helped shape the language of bebop, hard bop, and improvisational performance.

His 1956 album Saxophone Colossus became one of the landmarks of jazz recording, while pieces such as St. Thomas, Oleo, and Doxy became standards played by generations of musicians. Across his career, Rollins worked with major artists including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Max Roach, and Bud Powell.

He also became known for stepping away from the spotlight to practice and rethink his music, including a famous period spent practicing on the Williamsburg Bridge. Rollins retired from performing in 2014 after health issues, but his recordings remain central to jazz history.

One of Liverpool’s best-known music venues is getting a temporary new identity tied to one of the city’s most famous artists. An announcement this week confirmed that The Jacaranda will briefly operate under the name The Maccaranda as part of a collaboration connected to Paul McCartney.

The venue has deep roots in Beatles history. Long before global success, the band members frequently visited and performed at the Slater Street club during their early years in Liverpool’s music scene. The temporary name change recognizes that historic connection while also marking the release of McCartney’s upcoming studio album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which arrives on May 29.

The venue’s owners said the partnership is designed to celebrate Liverpool’s musical legacy and the vital role smaller grassroots clubs played in shaping artists who later became international stars.

Fans visiting the venue during the promotion will see updated exterior signage, themed decorations, and exclusive merchandise linked to the collaboration, alongside a special themed cocktail called the “Maccarita.” The project has already drawn significant attention from Beatles fans and music tourists planning trips to the city.

A sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic Michael is already in development, with Lionsgate indicating that a significant part of the next film may already be complete.

During a quarterly earnings call, Lionsgate motion picture chair Adam Fogelson said preparations for the follow-up are moving forward well. He said there is still a large part of Jackson’s story and music catalog that was not covered in the first film.

The first movie ends with Jackson’s 1988 performance at Wembley Stadium in London during the Bad tour. Fogelson suggested the sequel may not move in a straight timeline, saying the story could move forward and backward.

He also said the studio believes about 25% to 30% of a second film was already shot during the earlier production. That footage could help reduce the cost of the sequel.

The first film became a major box office success after its April release. It also faced production challenges connected to the child sex abuse allegations against Jackson, which remain a sensitive part of his public history.

Dick Parry, the saxophonist whose playing became part of several defining Pink Floyd recordings, has died at 83.

David Gilmour confirmed Parry’s death in a public tribute, remembering him as a longtime friend and musical partner. The two had known each other since their teenage years and played together in bands before Parry became connected to Pink Floyd’s studio and live work.

Parry’s saxophone is heard on some of the band’s best-known songs, including Money, Us and Them, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Wish You Were Here. His tone added a warm, expressive layer to Pink Floyd’s sound during a period when the group was creating some of its most widely recognized music.

He appeared on The Dark Side of the Moon in 1973 and Wish You Were Here in 1975, and also toured with Pink Floyd during the 1970s. Parry later returned for The Division Bell era and worked with Gilmour on solo performances.

Madonna has returned to the top of a radio chart for the first time in nearly two decades.

The latest chart update shows I Feel So Free rising to No. 1 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart dated May 30. The track climbs from No. 8, giving Madonna her eighth career leader on that chart.

Her last No. 1 radio hit came in December 2008 with Miles Away. The new milestone adds another chapter to a chart history that has stretched across several decades and formats.

I Feel So Free connects with Madonna’s long relationship with dance music, a sound that has been central to many of her biggest moments. The song’s movement to No. 1 also reflects continued support from mix shows and dance radio programmers.

The chart achievement arrives as Madonna remains closely linked to club culture, where her music has had a lasting presence since the start of her career.

Niall Horan’s new song End of an Era carries a deeply personal connection to Liam Payne, his former One Direction bandmate. Horan has said the track began years ago with songwriters John Ryan and Julian Bunetta, but it did not fully come together until after Payne’s death in October 2024.

The song, set as the closing track on Horan’s upcoming album Dinner Party, looks at loss, memory, and the feeling of watching an important chapter close. Horan and Payne shared years of work, travel, and public attention during One Direction’s run, along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.

Rather than framing the track as a dramatic farewell, Horan presents it as a quiet reflection on friendship and time. The release also gives fans a new moment to process Payne’s passing through music connected to one of the people who knew him closely.

Dinner Party is scheduled for release on June 5.

At the event, Cyrus reflected on the meaning of the honor and connected it to Walk of Fame, a song from her 2025 album Something Beautiful. The track was co-written by Brittany Howard, who also contributed vocals and guitar.

Cyrus said the moment represented years of steady work rather than a prize to chase. She spoke about creativity, legacy, and the importance of continuing to make art after the ceremony ended.

The Grammy-winning artist first became widely known through the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana before building a music career with a catalog that spans pop, rock, and country influences.

Her mother, Tish Cyrus, sister Brandi Cyrus, and fiancé Maxx Morando were among those in attendance.

During a recent studio update, Lionsgate motion picture chair Adam Fogelson said the company is “really excited” about the progress being made on a possible sequel to Michael. He said the first film does not cover every major part of Jackson’s life or career, leaving more story and music to explore.

Fogelson also said a significant amount of footage that could be used for a second movie was already shot during production on the first film. His estimate placed that material at roughly 25% to 30% of a potential sequel.

The first Michael film is set to focus on the life and career of one of the most commercially successful entertainers in pop history. A second installment would likely give the studio more room to cover later chapters of Jackson’s story, though full details have not been announced.

Alex Warren is bringing his arena tour to North America after wrapping a run of shows in Europe, and he is stepping into the next stretch with some advice from artists who know the road well.

Ahead of the new dates, Warren shared that Ed Sheeran has been one of the people helping him understand how to handle life on tour. One lesson has been especially useful: not every performance will feel perfect, and that is part of the job. The key is to keep going, stay present, and not let one rough moment take over the night.

Warren has also said Shawn Mendes has helped him with vocal care, giving him tips on how to protect his voice during a demanding schedule.

The tour will give fans a chance to hear Warren’s newer music live, including recent singles and a song called Passenger, which is expected to arrive soon. For Warren, the North American leg marks another major step in a fast-growing year.

Sabrina Carpenter’s “House Tour” started in a casual late-night setting, not a carefully planned studio moment. During a recent interview, Jack Antonoff said the song was written around 2 a.m. in the U.K. after drinks, while he, Carpenter, and songwriter-producer John Ryan were working together.

The track appears on Carpenter’s album Man’s Best Friend, a project Antonoff helped shape as a co-writer on nine songs. He described the “House Tour” session as loose and natural, saying the best ideas often arrive when artists are relaxed and connected in the room.

Antonoff also pointed to the importance of trust in the creative process. Rather than forcing a song into place, the group followed the mood of the night and let the idea build from there.

“House Tour” adds another playful, personality-driven moment to Carpenter’s recent run, following the sharp pop style that has helped define her current era.
